White Owl Film Studios and Volume Global: Pioneering the Future of Film Production in Northern Ontario

Sudbury, Ontario – Volume Global, in partnership with White Owl Film Studios, Northern Ontario’s First Nation Indigenous-owned multimedia company, is excited to announce the construction of their groundbreaking, state-of-the-art 20k square foot, 35 ft high clear span soundstage on the Wahnapitae First Nation. This collaboration is set to alleviate the lack of film and TV stage space in Northern Ontario. Following the successful launch of the world’s first-of-its-kind air column supported soundstage in Yonkers, New York, with Great Point Studios and Lionsgate, Volume Global is now building a second Pop-Up soundstage in Northern Ontario, expanding their global capabilities. This will be the first air supported 20k soundstage built in Canada and ultimately, the world.

Volume Global, renowned for its expertise in the design and construction of the first-ofits-kind air-supported pop-up soundstages and in the modular design, scaling, operation and workflows of LED volumes, is taking a significant step forward in its mission to provide innovative solutions for the entertainment industry in key government incentive countries, states, and provinces. The company’s Board of Advisors includes John Lynch, the sixth man hired at Amazon Studios and former head of production for Paramount, who is consulting on builds and productions around the world.

White Owl Film Studios, situated in and around the lakefront in an enclave nestled 20 minutes from the Sudbury, Ontario airport, is proud to be at the forefront of this venture in a transformative time in the film and TV industry. “We are excited to partner with Volume Global in developing the first soundstage of its kind and the first Northern Ontario 20K square foot clear span soundstage,” said CEO Roy Roque of White Owl Film Studios. “This joint endeavour will provide significant support to local communities, foster economic stimulus, and job growth in Northern Ontario.”

The newly introduced Pop-Up soundstage is designed to offer a rapid response and flexible solution for film, television, and event production in an era where industry resources are being squeezed. This state-of-the-art facility will address the growing demand for efficient and versatile production spaces. The first series pre-leasing the studio, is “Deerslayer,” the prequel to “The Last of the Mohicans.” Christopher Rush Harrington, Co-CEO of Volume Global, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to partner with White Owl Film Studios of the Wahnapitae First Nation to bring this innovative solution to Canada and, more specifically, Northern Ontario. We firmly believe that this collaboration will not only help address a global shortage of production space, but moreover is a testament to our commitment to supporting the Indigenous community of the Wahnapitae First Nation.”

Both White Owl Media and Volume Global are eager to set new benchmarks in the world of film production. Volume Global is currently contracted and leading a Virtual Production in Regina, Saskatchewan, with their Modular LED Volume design and workflow. The pop-up soundstage is expected to be operational in January 2024. For more information about Volume Global, visit https://volumeglobal.ca.
